30-Day Christian Marriage Challenge – Building A Christ-Centered Marriage

Spread the love

Marriage is one of God’s greatest gifts, but building a strong, Christ-centered marriage takes intention, patience, and a whole lot of grace. Between busy schedules, kids, work, and the everyday stresses of life, it’s easy to fall into routines and forget to intentionally pour into your relationship. This 30-Day Christian Marriage Challenge is designed to help you slow down, reconnect with your spouse, and invite God into your marriage in simple, meaningful ways. Over the next 30 days, you’ll focus on loving, serving, encouraging, praying for, and spending intentional time with your spouse—one small challenge at a time. You don’t need a perfect marriage to begin; just a willing heart and a desire to grow closer to your spouse and to God.

How the Marriage Challenge Works:

1.Each day, focus on the daily challenge for that day, being very aware of your actions and words.

2. The next day, while focusing on the new challenge, try to be mindful of the previous days challenges, and continue to apply those principles in addition to the new challenge.

MOST IMPORTANTLY — no matter how your spouse is acting or treating you that day, don’t let it deter your desire to stick to the challenge that day. This challenge does NOT need to be done by both partners. These are all things that YOU can do to benefit yourself AND your relationship with your spouse, whether they make any changes or not.

30 Ways & 30 Days to a Stronger, God-Centered Marriage

Day 1 – Choose Love

Love is a daily choice, not just a feeling. Some days loving your spouse will come easily, while other days it may require patience, grace, and intentionality. Today, choose to love your spouse through your actions, words, and attitude—even in the little moments. Ask yourself, “What would love look like in this moment?” and let that guide how you respond.

Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:4–5 — “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast… it is not irritable or resentful.”

Day 2 – Guard Your Words

Words can either build your marriage up or slowly tear it down. Today, pay extra attention to the way you speak to and about your spouse. Avoid criticism, sarcasm, complaining, or unnecessary negativity. Instead, make your words a place where your spouse finds encouragement, kindness, and safety.

Verse: Ephesians 4:29 — “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up…”

Day 3 – Pray for Them

One of the most powerful ways you can love your spouse is by praying for them. Take a few quiet minutes today to bring their needs, struggles, dreams, responsibilities, and relationship with God before Him. Instead of focusing only on what you wish would change, ask God to bless your spouse, strengthen them, and help you become the spouse they need too.

Verse: James 5:16 — “Pray for one another…”

Day 4 – Serve Humbly

Look for something you can take off your spouse’s plate today without expecting recognition or anything in return. Wash the dishes, handle a chore they normally do, make their coffee, or take care of something they’ve been putting off. Quiet acts of service are a simple way to say, “I see you, and I care about making your day a little easier.”

Verse: Galatians 5:13 — “Through love serve one another.”

Day 5 – Practice Patience

Your spouse won’t always do things the way you would, respond as quickly as you’d like, or understand what you mean right away. Today, give them a little extra patience. Slow down before responding when you’re frustrated, extend grace when something goes wrong, and remember that protecting your relationship is often more important than proving your point.

Verse: Proverbs 15:1 — “A soft answer turns away wrath…”

Day 6 – Show Kindness

Kindness can become easy to overlook in marriage because we get so comfortable with one another. Today, intentionally do something kind for your spouse simply because you love them. Send an encouraging text, bring them their favorite snack, take care of a task for them, or give them your full attention when they need to talk.

Verse: Colossians 3:12 — “Put on… kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.”

Day 7 – Forgive Quickly

Small hurts can turn into lasting resentment when we hold onto them. If there’s a minor offense you’ve been replaying in your mind, make the decision to release it today. Forgiveness doesn’t mean pretending that serious problems don’t matter, but it does mean refusing to keep unnecessary score in your marriage.

Verse: Colossians 3:13 — “As the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.”

Day 8 – Speak Life

Think of something you genuinely admire about your spouse and tell them. Maybe they’re hardworking, funny, patient with your children, thoughtful, talented, or dependable. Don’t assume they already know how you feel. A sincere compliment can remind your spouse that they are noticed, valued, and appreciated.

Verse: Proverbs 16:24 — “Gracious words are like a honeycomb…”

Day 9 – Choose Gratitude

It’s easy to notice what your spouse didn’t do while overlooking everything they do every day. Write down three things you’re genuinely thankful for about your spouse. They don’t have to be huge. Thank God for those qualities, and consider sharing your list with your spouse so they know they’re appreciated.

Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 — “Give thanks in all circumstances…”

Day 10 – Be Slow to Anger

When something frustrates you today, don’t immediately react. Give yourself a moment to think, pray, and choose your response. A short pause can be the difference between a productive conversation and words you’ll wish you could take back. Listen fully before speaking and seek understanding before becoming defensive.

Verse: James 1:19 — “Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.”

Day 11 – Assume the Best

Misunderstandings become much bigger when we automatically assume bad intentions. Today, give your spouse the benefit of the doubt. Instead of thinking, “They don’t care,” or “They did that on purpose,” consider that there may be another explanation. Ask questions before making assumptions and choose to view your spouse through a lens of love.

Verse: 1 Corinthians 13:7 — “Love… believes all things.”

Day 12 – Walk in Humility

It’s much easier to recognize where our spouse needs to change than where we do. Today, turn the focus inward. Ask God to show you an area where you could become a better spouse. If you’ve been wrong about something, admit it without adding excuses or immediately pointing out what your spouse did wrong too.

Verse: Philippians 2:3 — “In humility count others more significant than yourselves.”

Day 13 – Encourage Them

Your spouse should know that someone is always in their corner—and that person should be you. Encourage them about something they’re working toward, struggling with, or doing well. A simple “I’m proud of you,” “I believe in you,” or “I see how hard you’re trying” can mean more than you realize.

Verse: 1 Thessalonians 5:11 — “Encourage one another and build one another up.”

Day 14 – Choose Joy

Marriage shouldn’t only be about responsibilities, schedules, bills, and getting through the day. Bring a little joy into your relationship today. Laugh together, play your favorite music, send a funny text, reminisce about a favorite memory, or do something spontaneous. Let your spouse see that you still enjoy doing life with them.

Verse: Nehemiah 8:10 — “The joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Day 15 – Be Faithful in Small Things

Strong marriages are rarely built through one enormous romantic gesture. They’re built through hundreds of small choices made consistently. Today, focus on one little act of love: make their coffee, kiss them goodbye, ask about their day, put your phone down when they’re talking, or tell them you love them. Small things become big things when they’re repeated.

Verse: Luke 16:10 — “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much.”

Day 16 – Let Love Cover

Not every annoyance needs to become a conversation or argument. Today, practice letting the little things go. If your spouse leaves something out, forgets a minor task, or does something slightly irritating, consider whether it truly needs to be addressed. Sometimes love looks like extending grace instead of pointing out every imperfection.

Verse: 1 Peter 4:8 — “Love covers a multitude of sins.”

Day 17 – Show Gentleness

Gentleness isn’t weakness; it is strength under control. Pay attention to your tone today, especially during disagreements or stressful moments. You can communicate something important without being harsh. Try to make your spouse feel safe talking to you, even when you don’t agree.

Verse: Galatians 5:22–23 — “The fruit of the Spirit is… gentleness.”

Day 18 – Practice Self-Control

We can’t always control what happens, but we can control how we respond. Today, be intentional about your tone, volume, facial expressions, and reactions. If emotions start running high, pause before continuing the conversation. Ask God to help you respond with wisdom rather than allowing a temporary emotion to control your words.

Verse: Proverbs 25:28 — “A man without self-control is like a city broken into…”

Day 19 – Trust God With Your Marriage

You don’t have to carry every worry about your marriage by yourself. Whatever has been weighing on your heart—finances, communication, parenting, intimacy, the future, or something else—bring it to God today. Pray about the things you can change and surrender the things you can’t. Trust that God can work in places you cannot.

Verse: Proverbs 3:5 — “Trust in the Lord with all your heart…”

Day 20 – Show Respect

Respect is demonstrated in the everyday ways you treat your spouse. Listen when they speak, avoid embarrassing or belittling them, value their opinions, and speak about them respectfully when they’re not around. Today, look for one specific way to communicate, “You matter to me, and I value who you are.”

Verse: Romans 12:10 — “Outdo one another in showing honor.”

Day 21 – Be Quick to Reconcile

Pride can turn a small disagreement into hours—or days—of distance. If there’s tension between you and your spouse today, be willing to make the first move toward peace. That might mean apologizing, asking to talk, offering affection, or simply saying, “I don’t want us to stay upset with each other.” Don’t let winning an argument become more important than restoring connection.

Verse: Ephesians 4:26 — “Do not let the sun go down on your anger.”

Day 22 – Speak Truth in Love

Healthy marriages require honesty, but honesty doesn’t have to be harsh. If something needs to be discussed today, think about how you can communicate it with both truth and love. Focus on solving the problem together rather than attacking your spouse. Your goal isn’t simply to be heard; it’s to understand each other better.

Verse: Ephesians 4:15 — “Speaking the truth in love…”

Day 23 – Carry Their Burdens

Ask yourself what is making life difficult for your spouse right now. Are they overwhelmed at work? Exhausted from parenting? Stressed about finances? Carrying an emotional burden? Find one practical way to make their load lighter today. Even if you can’t fix the problem, reminding them that they don’t have to face it alone matters.

Verse: Galatians 6:2 — “Bear one another’s burdens.”

Day 24 – Dwell on What Is Good

Whatever you repeatedly focus on will influence how you see your spouse. If you constantly dwell on their flaws, those flaws can begin to overshadow everything good about them. Today, intentionally focus on their strengths. Think about why you fell in love with them, what they bring to your family, and the qualities you admire most.

Verse: Philippians 4:8 — “Whatever is true… honorable… lovely… think about these things.”

Day 25 – Be Content

Comparison can quietly steal joy from a marriage. Social media and other people’s relationships can make it seem as though everyone else has more romance, money, excitement, or happiness. Today, stop comparing your marriage to someone else’s highlight reel. Thank God for the relationship you have and focus your energy on nurturing it.

Verse: Hebrews 13:5 — “Be content with what you have.”

Day 26 – Walk in Peace

You don’t have to participate in every argument you’re invited into. Today, make peace a priority in your home and marriage. Lower your voice instead of raising it, listen instead of interrupting, and refuse to turn small disagreements into bigger battles. Ask God to help you bring calm into stressful moments.

Verse: Colossians 3:15 — “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.”

Day 27 – Commit Your Marriage to the Lord

Take intentional time today to dedicate your marriage to God. Thank Him for your spouse and ask Him to guide your decisions, conversations, priorities, and future together. Pray that your marriage would honor Him and that both of you would continue becoming the people He has called you to be.

Verse: Proverbs 16:3 — “Commit your work to the Lord…”

Day 28 – Reflect Christ

Christ’s love is patient, sacrificial, gracious, and undeserved—and that’s the kind of love we’re called to extend to others. Today, ask yourself how you can reflect Christ more clearly in the way you treat your spouse. Choose grace when it’s difficult, serve without keeping score, and love without waiting for your spouse to go first.

Verse: John 13:34 — “Love one another: just as I have loved you.”

Day 29 – Persevere in Love

There will be seasons when marriage feels effortless and seasons when loving well requires much more intentionality. Don’t become discouraged when growth feels slow. Continue choosing kindness, prayer, forgiveness, patience, and faithfulness even when you don’t immediately see the results. Strong marriages are built by continuing to show up for each other.

Verse: Galatians 6:9 — “Let us not grow weary of doing good.”

Day 30 – Build on Christ

You’ve spent the last 30 days intentionally pouring into your marriage, but the challenge doesn’t have to end here. Choose a few habits from this month that you want to carry forward. Most importantly, continue making Christ the foundation of your relationship. Pray together, seek God’s wisdom, extend grace freely, and keep choosing each other. A Christ-centered marriage isn’t built in 30 days—it’s built through a lifetime of choosing to follow Him together.

Verse: Matthew 7:24 — “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.”
